Our trips will take
you to cruise the mighty Mahakam River and its tributaries
on a house boat, which meanders through thousands of kilometers
through one of the worlds largest tropical rainforests, from its
head water near the center of the island. This is the gate of one
the greatest adventure in Indonesia.
Here we will meet the
Dayak Tribes, the indigenous people of Borneo Island. The
twenty main Dayak tribes - once feared as headhunters have their
homes in this river basin. We will observe their traditional way of
life, longhouses, dances and also to meet the women with long
earlobes and the men with beautifully elaborate tattoos.
At some point will we
use motorized canoes to explore the smaller rivers while watching
the plants and animals feed and drink along these nourishing shores,
wild orchids drip off trees, Bekantans (Proboscis monkeys),
crocodiles, clouded leopards, crab eating macaques, giant
butterflies and the legendary hornbill all live here.
We will take a
short trekking at a 5,000 acre Orchid Reservation close to the
village of Kersik Luwai cultivates 27 different species of orchid
including the very rare Cologenia Pandurata or
black orchid.
For the divers this
province offers undoubtedly one of the undisputed diving highlights
to experience in Indonesia: A majestic marine biodiversity and the
thriving pristine reefs. Just east of this province, some seven
islands are spread out in the tropical waters of the Celebes Sea
exhibiting a wonderful profusion of corals, reef fishes and superior
schools of pelagic fish, sometimes seen in the hundreds and even
thousands. Many species of marine life found, notably in the
brackish salt water lake of Kakaban, Sangalaki and Derawan
Islands are endemic to that particular environment.
The river cruise,
wildlife and cultural trekking in the Mahakam River will be a
perfect combination with the the beauties of this marine wildlife
reserve at Maratua, Kakaban, Sangalaki and Derawan Islands.
Our trips start from
Balikpapan, one of the major cities in East Borneo as this city
served by regular flight services from Jakarta, Bali and Singapore.

TERING - EHENG - TREK - KERSIK LUWAY - MAHAKAM

by jeep for visiting Tering for dayak bahau long ears then return to
Eheng the old communal long house at Eheng village.
Trekking in the jungle
to observe the huge
trees, the return to KersikLuway for Black Orchid forest and back to
the boat down river. Meals

DAY 04: TENGGARONG -
LOA
JANAN - BALIKPAPAN
Stop at Tenggarong to visit
Museum and
Royal cemetery. Proceed to
Loa Janan and onto Balikpapan by car. Overnight at hotel (B,L,D).

observing ther way of the people life at the village then return to
house boat and cruise up for Melak. Stop will be made at Minta
village to visit the people making palm sugar afterward up for
melak. Meals and overnight on boat.
DAY 04:
LONG IRAM -
RUKUN DAMAI
Return to the boat and
continue the trip by
boat on favourable water condition or by canoe for Rukun Damai.
Arrive at
Rukun Damai observing Dayak villages and cultural and afternoon trek
available. Meals provided overnight at local house
(B,L,D).
DAY 05:
RUKUN DAMAI -
LONG HUBUNG - TENGGARONG
Breakfast at local house then down to
Long Hubung for Hudoq dances (mask dances) by Dayak bahau tribes
then down river for Tenggarong. Meals and overnight on boat.
DAY 06: TENGGARONG - LOAJANAN -
BALIKPAPAN
Breakfast on your boat then visiting
to the museum and royal cemetery at Tenggarong then down for
loajanan and proceed to Balikpapan to your hotel.
Overnight
at hotel (B,L,D).
DAY 07 : HOTEL - AIRPORT

of the people life Dayak Kenyah which known well with their long ear
and tattoos.
Procceed
up Mahakam
river for
Rukun Damai. Arrive in the late evening. Meals and overnight on boat
on long house

DAY 04: RUKUN DAMAI - LONG BAGUN
Proceed to
observe
the life of Dayak kenyah and Punan at Rukun Damai and Long Merah
and enjoy
Dayak dances in the village.
Return to the
boat or long baot down river for Long Bagun. Meals and overnight on
boat (B,L,D).
DAY 05: LONG BAGUN -
CANOEING
- TIONG OHANG
Proceed the trip on wooden canoe ro enjoy the
rapids
of Mahakam river on the
way to Tiong Ohang. Overnight

DAY 06: TIONG OHANG TREK- LONG BAGUN
Continue by trekking

through the jungle return to Long

down river for Long
